Kim Pennington is the founder of Career 2000, a specialist recruitment consultancy serving the Medical Device Sales & Leadership and healthcare industries across South Africa. With more than three decades of recruitment and human resources experience, Kim is recognised for her deep industry knowledge, extensive network, and trusted reputation within the sector.
Kim began her career in Johannesburg shortly after completing her schooling at Queens High School. She first supported recruitment consultants at Park Avenue Group before founding her own company, Randall Placements, based in Croydon, Johannesburg. There, she recruited across Isando, Spartan, Airport Industria, and Ekurhuleni regions, placing candidates in Freight Forwarding, Pharmaceutical, Engineering, Photocopier, Artisan, Medical Sales, and Agricultural sectors and more.
Following this, Kim joined National Chemical Products in Bedfordview, part of Murray & Roberts, where she recruited engineers for three plants, further deepening her experience in specialised Talent acquisition. She then moved to Deloitte & Touche in Woodmead, working as a PABX IT Administrator, coding and configuring their Siemens Pabx system across five office buildings — a role she took for a change of pace and to broaden her technical experience.
After marrying and relocating to Cape Town in 1996, Kim decided to return to her passion for recruitment, building on her early medical recruitment experience with Randall Placements. A niche recruiter, focusing on medical sales placements, she founded Career 2000 in 1997, initially recruiting across pharmaceutical graduate, sales, and leadership roles. Over time, the business naturally evolved into a specialist focus on Medical Device Sales and Leadership, building a highly trusted niche network. During this period, Kim also attended Targeted Assessment training, a structured interview technique still widely used today, including behavioural questioning — skills she has found invaluable in identifying top-performing Talent.
Today, Career 2000 partners with companies nationwide to build high-performing commercial teams. While targeted executive search and headhunting are available when required, most placements are achieved through Kim's long-established professional relationships and industry network, ensuring efficient identification of qualified candidates.
